Oscar E. Brown" {August 23,1892}

He received Patient # 481,271 for his invention of the double or compound
horseshoe.It consists of an upper shoe secured to the hoof of the animal and a
lower auxiliary shoe removably attached to the upper shoe.
The object of [Brown's] invention is the provision of a secure and reliable lock for fastering the lower shoe to the upper shoe,which will permit the lower shoe to be readily applied and removed from the upper shoe whenever it becomes necessary to renew the lower shoe or reshapen it calks.
