"Joan Dorsey"

Was the first African-American flight attendant hired to work for African
American Airlines in the 1960s.She applied for a flight attendant job at American Airlines after finishing a degree in in education at the University of  of Arizona.Her interest was fueled by a close friend,who worked for American and always told great stories.Joan graduated at the top of her class of what was then known as "Stewardess College"and began her career in New York According to American,Joan still recalls her first all-night flight on a 707 from LaGuardia to Toronto (it included several stops)  and count some of her favorite memories as her time with Democratic presidential candidate Sen.Hubert Humphrey and his entourage on his "Happy Warrior" charters in summer of 1968 and when she ate lunch with President Lyndon Baines Johnson at his Texas Ranch.In 1967,Joan was also the first African American at American Airlines to be promoted to a supervisor position within Flight Services.She retired in 199,after 36 years of service.
