Became the first African-American priest ordained in the United States,
on December 19,1891,in Baltimore Maryland.(The four previous African-Americans had all been ordained in Europe.)Charles was ordained at the
Cathedral of the Assumption,as it was known then.He attended Baltimore Normal School for teachers and taught in Baltimore County public schools,mainly at Epiphany College.He had been a priest for forty-two years.
